Design Ideas: Incorporating Artificial Plants Into Your Office Work Space

Let’s face it…not everyone gets to have a corner office with floor-to-ceiling windows and enough sunlight to nurture their favorite office plants. For those of us who might have a slightly smaller workspace (aka a cube), but still appreciate that beauty that plants, flowers, and shrubs can bring to our desk we have put together a few design ideas that might help you pick the right plant and position it in a way that it brightens your day.

Before we get into the beautiful design ideas, though, here are a few reasons WHY you should include artificial office plants or flowers in your workspace. These tips are especially true if you need plants for an office with no windows at all!

Why should you include plants and flowers in your workspace

There are so many reasons why you should include plants and pop of color in flowers in your workspace, especially if your office does not have any windows. Below are a few reasons why plants can help you become a better employee.

Plants And Flowers Increase Performance On The Job

In one study, detailed here,

“…when plants were brought into the offices – one plant per square meter – employee performance on memory retention and other basic tests improved substantially.”

That means plants, artificial or real, might help you perform better because you are seeing things that make you happier. This is especially true for offices without windows where plants can help you be happier and can have positive impacts on your brain function and, make you a more productive employee.

Keep Your Cool By Reducing Your Stress Levels

Another study, discussed here, indicates that

“Adding indoor plants, opening blinds, or going outside for a work break instead of to the break room, for example, are straightforward ways to increase healthy exposures at work to combat stress and promote health.”

The study authors found that contacts with nature, even when they are in the form of artificial plants, helped reduce stress, which can keep you calm during those stressful situations on the job.

Those are just a couple of reasons why decorating with plants and flowers (either live or fake) can help your office not only feel more homey but also make you mentally feel better.

So, the next question is “how do I decorate my office with artificial plants?”.

Tips for decorating your office with plants and flowers

Here are a few of our favorite tips to keep in mind as you consider adding plants and flowers to your office space.

Tip 1 – Consider the size of your space

Space is really important when choosing plants and flowers for your office. The last thing you want to do is stuff a huge tree or fern into a small space.

Instead, if your office is small, think of small succulents that you can place near your desk or a hanging fern that you can place in the corner of your office. Again, this only works if your office is big enough.

If you have a blank wall, another great decoration idea would be to include an office plant wall. Check out the video below to learn how to make a plant wall.

Keep in mind that this video is for a live plant wall. If you don’t have a green thumb, travel a lot, or just don’t want to maintain a live plant wall for your office, then consider creating an artificial plant wall instead. You can source all of the artificial flowers and plants online and create it yourself in a matter of hours.

Tip 2 – Consider the light that your office receives

If you don’t have windows or have low-light, then you might consider live plants that require very little light or just go with artificial plants and flowers. Because fake plants don’t have any light or watering requirements, they can bring beauty to your space without the light needs.

Just be sure that you look for high-quality artificial plants and flowers and skip the fake looking plants. The last thing you want is for your work-space to look tacky.
